Using the 1/4" for the frame work to keep the weight down but adding 1 x 2" poplar to reinforce the frame . I'm trying to stay away from having any screws visible so wood glueing all the pieces together. A good rule of thumb: When you find a sale on good clamps, buy some. They will always come in handy.
Bought some basic 24" T12 flourescent lamps from the local mega hardware store. They hold 2 tubes each, $16 a pop. Already ordered the unfiltered black light tubes online that will accompany these. 6 tubes total should do the trick.
